Collections

Because I'm moving into a whole different color scheme in the living room/dining room area, I've been getting rid of some of my collections and adding to the ones I want to keep. I find myself moving toward a darker color scheme. Not sure what that is all about, but I like it.

Here's some of what I've put together

The collection below is from a walk around the lake at the park that my grand baby and I took a couple of months ago. Being closer to the ground than I am, she seemed to notice all kinds of interesting stuff. She made sure that she picked up most of it and that grandma carried it! I'm glad that I kept it, as it is a nice reminder of our time together :-)

I know you've been asking and I hope to have some of these little birdies in stock soon.

I haven't done much here, but I will continue to layer it as I come across pieces that I know will go well here. Don't you love that glass glitter bee?? I bought that at Wendy Addison's studio tour a couple of years ago. Love her!!!

Just picked up these beauties at Anthropologie. The beaker is filled with tiny red vintage birds that I found at an antique store. Definitely needs more layering. Notice my favorite number?? :-)

I picked up the hour glass at Anthro too! Thanks to daughter #1 and her man for gifting me an Anthro gift card!! :-) The middle piece I've had for awhile. It is filled with lavender and an old stick with a cute bug pin glued on. The next piece is a vintage bottle that I put a mosaic on. I want to fill it with something, just not sure what yet. Maybe small shells???

What??? Another number 5?? ;-)

This, on the other hand, IS NOT a COLLECTION!! This guy has been showing up the last couple of days and I fear for my fishies lives!!! Stay Away Mr. Heron!!!

 

Well, that's all for now. I'm working on getting some orders filled and have also been putting some gifts together :-) For who you ask?? All in good time my sweets! ;-)

Thanks for the love on the Pink Heart Necklaces. They are sold out and I am out of pink plates at the moment, so I'm not sure when I'll be able to make anymore. Vintage pink plates are hard to come by! I'm going to stop by Merchant Square Flea Market this Saturday and hopefully I'll find some there. Tricia will be selling there, so I must stop by and say hello.

Something for a rainy day

It is raining cats and dogs here in normally dry Arizona! We sure need the moisture, but our ground does not know how to handle so much water.

My walkways have turned into little ponds. i hope my real ponds don't overflow. I may have fish swimming through my back yard!

With Valentine's Day coming up, I have been busy putting these little mosaic heart necklaces together.

If you're interested in one, I have four  (SOLD OUT) pink ones available in my etsy shop. I'm working on some other colors too and I should have them posted soon. :-) (if you want to see the vintage paper on each individual heart, just email me and I'll send you pics. Each one is different.)

Miss Maija bought a Mosaic Cross Necklace from me a few months ago and I think she looks totally HOT in it!!

Minnie from Fat & Sassy has a Pink Cross (LOVE that girl's style!!!!) and Joy from The Vintage Rabbit has a White Cross (she's my buddy! :-) ) Just a few people that I'm lucky enough to have wear my work.

The hearts are not as large, but they do draw attention. I wore a couple out this past week and received lots of compliments. :-)

Well, I'd better go check on my fish and make sure they are not swimming with the vegetables!

Creativity

Creativity is a very important part of my life. It's up there with oxygen and breathing and all of those other important things necessary for living. I do something creative pretty much every day and I promise you, it isn't always a mosaic. ;-) Some creative ventures are planned (if you count waking up in the morning and saying to yourself that you need to go buy some paint at Lowe's, so that you can paint one of your clocks a different color and then doing it) and some of them are not (hey, look at that scrap wood. I should make a planter box out of that right now).

My friends are always asking me where I get all of my energy at and I tell them it's not about energy. It's about a feeling inside of you that moves you to create, no matter what the energy level is. You see, the feeling is much STRONGER than the energy level and the creativity must happen or.............or maybe craziness will happen? I don't know. I just know that "I" must follow this path. Believe me when I say that I have collapsed at the end of a day where my creativity has pushed me to my limits, but the REWARDS are so much greater than any body pain or exhaustion I feel. It really does bring me true bliss! (yes, even all of the gazillion cupcake orders!) :-)

Anyway, I thought I'd share a few projects that I've been working on the last few weeks.

Tissue paper flowers. I am planting a large tissue paper garden in my studio :-)

I amended the soil in my raised veggie garden and planted seeds. (yep, this is also creativity at work)

Here is the planter I just built from scrap wood I found next to the shed. Of course, it also had to be painted. I can't have a plain old wooden looking planter box! More of these to come. I found more wood and I have lots more seeds. Hubby kinda winced when he came home and saw that I had dug up some more grass. He'll get used to it :-)

Painting lattice for another project. It's not fun painting lattice, but I'll find JOY in the finished project.

You already saw my chicken coop from a previous post. The hubby built it, but I painted it.

Finished up the tree on my mosaic wall (FINALLY!)

 

The hubby bought me a pond form for my birthday and If you're wondering, NO labor was not included with the gift. I've been asking for a pond form for my front yard for 3 years now (for my bday), but hubby would not get it until I told him that I would install it, if he bought it. This was one of those creative ventures that had me collapsing at the end of the day. Kicked my butt, but well worth it! :-) Now my neighbor is putting one in too! I just love when the JOY spreads!!!

I'm tired of pink in the living room, so I've been gathering supplies and paint chips and THIS new fabric that I'm going to recover my couch with. Bad pic, but it is brown with aqua. I'm going to paint my green walls dusty aqua (BIG JOB) and add some wallpaper. Not sure when this is all going down, but hopefully sometime soon. You never know, I might just wake up and put the ladder up and get it started! (probably when the hubby goes out of town for a few days) ;-)

I also include shopping for junque as living creatively. Check out this chandelier that I picked up in Bisbee for $24!!!!! I'm going to rewire it and then I haven't decided whether I want to put it in the new living room redo or hang it over my kitchen island. hmmmmmmmm

I'm still working on my kitchen cabinets. I just finished redoing this one by removing the doors, adding the wallpaper and molding and building the plate rack and painting and antiquing. This is the 2nd plate rack that I have built and it will be the last. There was a lot of cussing while completing this project, but I am happy with how it turned out. Two more cabinets to tackle and then my kitchen cabinet redo will be DONE!

Of course, there is always cupcake making going on. These will be headed to Firefly gallery in California this week when completed.

I also include taking care of my chicks as living the creative life. Look how big my babies are getting! They are also learning how to fly, so now I must get creative and build them a screened lid so that I don't find them wandering around my house. They have a few more weeks before they can go out to their coop.

Well, I must now get creative and get back to my cupcakes. Are you living creatively? I bet you are!

Vegas

Daughter #3 turned 21 in late November and our gift to her was a trip to Las Vegas. Now, I'm not really a fan of Vegas, but I figured that I could endure a 1 day trip for her sake. The 2 of us flew out a couple of days before Christmas. We flew because the tickets from Phoenix to Vegas are pretty cheap and I really do not care for driving anywhere that takes any longer than a couple of hours and neither does she.

We froze our butts off in that town! Being from Phoenix, you never think to bring a damn coat! The wind was blowing like mad and the temps had to be around 30 degrees. I shouldn't even mention that I was wearing flip-flops...Phoenix I tell ya!

We would have just stayed indoors and played the nickel slot machines, but I had bought Cirque du soleil Mystere tickets and the show was at the other end of the strip. We were TOLD that it was much closer and that it would be a short walk. LIAR!! We were freakin' ice cubes by the time we got there!

The show was very COOL and I would have loved to have taken pics but it is highly forbidden to snap pics or your camera will be taken away until later. Were you NOT listening to the rules lady beside me???

We also visited the Bellagio as we love to visit their Conservatory and see what the newest floral design is. Wowsa!!!

The two of us. My arms were just not long enough to get a decent picture. We kept retaking it and it just got funnier each time.

And because she COULD......pina colada and strawberry margarita mix. I did not want her to get too tipsy, so like a good mother, I helped her drink it :-)

For those of you who don't travel to Vegas on a regular basis (me), can you believe that people actually spend their Christmas vacations there??! Can you believe it?? It was crazy packed!!! Little kids too!!!

We were there for only 30 hours and boy was I glad to get back home!

Okay, I guess I should get to work.....cupcake orders. Totally not motivated.
