I don't have any finished mosaics to share with you today, so I thought I'd take you on another field trip. Besides, with all of the doom and gloom in the news lately, a little break from reality can be good for the soul sometimes :-)
This particular field trip takes place in San Diego, California. Over the Labor Day Holiday weekend, my two youngest daughters and I decided to hit the road. San Diego is only about a 5 1/2 hour drive from our house, and to get out of the Arizona scorching heat for a few days, it is WELL worth the drive!
We stayed in Little Italy our first night. It is close to Sea Port Village and my favorite seafood restaurant, Anthony's Seafood Grotto. If you've never visited Little Italy in San Diego, I highly recommend that you do. They have lots of cool shops and cafes and restaurants.
Italian restaurants lined up along the sidewalk and you can walk to everything. The blocks are short and the place is really safe.
I LOVE when cities hang flowering baskets from their light posts! It reminds me of Paris.
Check out the courtyard....in the middle of the city! It's hard to tell from this picture, but that vine has large purple flowers on it. I'm thinking either Morning Glory or Clematis. Not sure, as it doesn't grow in Arizona.
You can see the ocean from the streets of Little Italy.
Every Labor Day weekend, they close some of the streets for these stick ball games. We've been coming to this area for years and we always enjoy watching a little bit of the action.
We went to Seaport Village and did some shopping and enjoyed the sights. Don't daughter's 3 and 4 look like they're having a good time?? :-)
Ha! look at this totally awesome piece of art!! A fairy on top of mushrooms....next to the ocean! Love it!!!
More lovely things to look at. Aaaaarrrrrrrrrgggghh Matey!
How about some fabulous boutique shopping???? Ooooh la~la!
The next place we stayed at was the Catamaran Resort. This place can be a little pricey, but if you watch, you can find some killer deals. I did! These two pictures are of the inner grounds of the resort. It's like paradise.
they have these little ponds winding throughout the place
and look at the size of these koi! You can see the back end of a duck to the right for comparison.
Look at how cute these ducks are all lined up on the branch. (probably scared of the big fishies!)
This is the best part of staying at the Catamaran. You get your own private beach! You don't have to fight the crowds like you do at the other beaches or find parking and when you're done, you just walk back to your room. YES!!! If you do still want the action of the crazy beaches, Mission Beach is just across the street from this resort. (I had teens with me, so we had to go)
Here's another pic of the beach
Here's a pic from the room. It had 2 queen beds, a couch with a fold out bed and a kitchen! I sat on the balcony in the early morning, drinking my coffee and reading my book. Talk about relaxing! In the evening, I sat there with a glass of wine and no book....even MORE Relaxing :-)
So there's your field trip. I hope you enjoyed it and I hope it took you to a more peaceful place for a few moments.
Here's wishing you all a very, very lovely weekend!
Hugs!
